FISHERMEN'S TALES AND SPOOKY STORIES

Louise Page and Chris Hawes recently joined their forces with Cotton Grass Theatre to mount two successful touring plays entitled THE COMPLEAT ANGLER and HAUNTED.

THE COMPLEAT ANGLER might be called the fisherman's tale to end all tales. As the seventeenth century naturalist, wit and philosopher Izaak Walton fights the unequal battle between a man and a fish, he regales his audience with jokes, poems, songs and even jigs. Chris Hawes's play HAUNTED, 'an evening of ghosts and apparitions' is based on four stories by M R James, master of that peculiarly English genre, the gothic ghost story. Two men meet in the gloom of a Cambridge common room, where they tell each other four tales of frightening discovery - and there's a scary twist near the end.

BAD WORDS BAD FOR BUSINESS

Badly written or insulting letters are costing U K firms business, a recent survey has found. More than 70% of the people who took part said that they had been so angered by the tone used, that they had cut ties with the company concerned. Firms who pay out vast sums of money on the latest technology apparently ignore the high cost of badly written communications. Jargon and "corporate-speak" are cited as being particularly irritating to our potential customers.
